SUMMARY
The IBP is an intensive course in American-style English presentation skills, specifically for Japanese professionals who do business with American colleagues and customers.

OBJECTIVES
There are two simultaneous objectives to the IBP:

1. Language: Participants will acquire the basic skills necessary for a professional presentation to a US audience in a variety of business settings. Emphasis is placed on clear and concise communication by use of correct English, logical organization, and specialized public speaking vocabulary.

2. Cultural Awareness: Participants will learn to recognize key cultural differences between US and Japanese business audiences that often hinder clear communication -- and learn to make necessary adjustments for a successful presentation.

CURRICULUM
The IBP curriculum focuses on internationally accepted skills and formats for public speaking. The approach includes:

Language training and audience analysis, proper organization, logical thinking, and the use of transitions to create a cohesive presentation.

Participant drills in the use of physical skills for public speaking, designed to give the presenter a confident, professional appearance and enhance physical emphasis.

Participants will learn to design and use effective, dynamic, and relevant visual aids -- and how to explain their visuals clearly and concisely using specified graph vocabulary.

Participants will learn the proper use of presentation tools, such as computers and PowerPoint, overhead or slide projectors, flipcharts, and whiteboards.

Finally, participants will learn a practical approach to handling question and answer sessions -- specifically designed to increase the confidence of native Japanese speakers.

METHOD
Throughout the IBP, lecture is kept to a minimum. The largest portion of the course involves student practice, drill, and supervised preparation. Practice sessions are recorded on video and later viewed in supervised group critique sessions for participants to evaluate their own performance. Such feedback provides an outstanding opportunity for learning and improvement. At the end of the course, participants may keep their own personal video recording for further reference and review.

The IBP is an intensive course offered in your choice of 3, 5, or 10 consecutive business days. The schedule for each day is 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with one-hour lunch and one-hour evening breaks. The last day ends at 6:00 p.m.
